Loss of libido

Studies show that women attach great importance to sexual intimacy in a relationship. That's why it can be very distressing to experience a drop in libido at menopause, which can be attributed to a number of different causes. 1

On the one hand, libido declines with age; on the other, the drop in sex hormones in the circulation is also responsible. The main symptoms are reduced sexual arousal and desire. Changes can also be reflected in the intensity and duration of sexual stimulation and orgasm. These disorders are caused or reinforced by both psychological and physical factors.

Due to skin and weight changes brought on by depression or other reasons, menopausal women often feel less attractive. This self-perception can lead to a lack of emotional interest in sex.

Physical problems are due to the vaginal dryness that often occurs during menopause. Those affected often experience pain during intercourse. Loss of libido is therefore an understandable consequence.
